I had a great time in Vegas last weekend. Much thanks to April for setting everything up.
I had a good run in the big blogger tournament, I ended up in 8th place out of 75 people, which is much better than I expected. I hit Drizz with a big suckout when my AQ beat his AK when 2 queens fell on the flop. I also knocked out someone with the Hammer (72) when I flopped a 7 and turned a second 7. I also knocked out Lou Krieger when my TPTK held up against his flush draw. Lou had two of his books as a bounty for knocking him out. I'm looking forward to reading them in the next few weeks.
I stopped getting cards in level 6 and held on until my AQ went up against AK and KQ. The AK held up and I was out. Congratulations to -EV on winning the tournament. I sat next to him for a long time and he really played great.
Meeting other bloggers was better than the tournament. I got to meet Al Can't Hang and Daddy for the first time. They were great to talk with & I hope to drink with them more next time, although I'm not much of a SoCo guy. I saw Iggy a couple times but didn't get over to talk to him. The dwarf is kind of intimidating at times.
I sat across from Mr. Subliminal for the first couple levels of the tournament, he doesn't smell bad for a homeless guy and was quite enjoyable to talk with.
I sat next to veteran poker dealer and internet entrepreneur Linda Geenan, who was great to sit next to. I'm sure she'll have some pictures of me up on the web before too long.
Another highlight of the weekend was hanging out in the Caesar's sportsbook on Sunday with Jonnell. I had a great time betting the ponies & watching football. I hit 3 winners and 3 exactas at Aqueduct. I need to move to Las Vegas just to play New York tracks. I am up something like $350 the last two days I bet them at Caesars. I ended up breaking even on my football betting, the Saints saved me with their blowout of the Cowboys on Sunday night.
Ok, here's the quote of the weekend, which I heard walking out of Caesar's on Sunday. Two southern women were talking going the other way and one of them said:
"Mexicans don't have cats."
At the time, I thought that was the funniest thing ever.
Next time I am coming in on Thursday and leaving on Monday. Too much fun stuff seems to happen on Thursday night.
Here's a link to Jonnell's recap of the weekend.
Greetings from damp Dublin! I enjoyed your company over the weekend in Vegas, and congrats on going deep in the tournie. If/when you make it to this side of the pond, let me know!
Irish Jim (as I seem to have been named on all the blogs)
