I started playing poker online a little over two years ago. I really haven't progressed as a player much in that time. That is mostly because I have not invested the time required to become a better player.
In the first 6 months I played I was up as much as $300 playing mostly $10 & $30 limit SNGs and some 2/4. Then I had a really bad night at a 3/6 table, losing $125 in about an hour. I was really wrecked by that session. I stopped winning the SNGs and then I got involved with the online poker equivalent of crack, the multi-table tournament. I wasn't good enough to be playing them, expecially NL tournaments, and since only the top 10% get paid, when I did get into the money I didn't make enough to cover my losses.
I recently decided to stop playing MTTs. I am not good enough to win enough money to make them worthwhile and the really big ones take too long. I was in a $20+2 1850 person MTT on Party 6 months ago, I came in 108 and got $28. Yup, I played 3 1/2 hours and made $6. It was fun, but it really wasn't worth it.
The only exception I made to my MTT ban were the Katrina relief tournaments on Full Tilt. Getting to sit next to Chris Ferguson and then cripple him (on a really lucky draw) was worth the buy-in.
Back to the title, I have been reading a number of poker bloggers recently and have come to the conclusion I have no idea what I am doing long term. I don't pay good enough attention at the table, and can fall into a weak-tight rut too easily. I guess knowing this is something, but I'd like to be a winning player by next summer when I finally get done with school.
